Mirisch to consider suing Beverly Hills
City Councilmember John Mirisch has declared his intent to run for a fifth Beverly Hills City Council term despite residents' overwhelming vote in favor of BHMC 2-1-21 in 2022, which limited council members and city treasurers to three terms. He has notified the City that he will be filing to be listed for the June 2026 municipal election, and he is willing to sue the City if he's rejected.
For Mirisch to feel entitled to go against the will of the citizens is pure hubris. This is a man who claims he represents the residents of Beverly Hills, but the residents have made clear that almost two decades on the City Council is enough for any person. He calls voters who call him out at council meetings unmannered, because he doesn't agree with them, even though his own manners are lacking. He is bad for our City, has no respect for the opinion of the populace, and he is likely one of the reasons this term-limits ordinance passed so strongly. In fact, he was on the council when this code was written and added to the ballot. The council was warned that it didn't match state code, yet it was approved; therefore, he created a loophole to either profit from this measure or threaten the City into putting him on the ballot.
In order for Mirisch to run, he would have to submit his nomination papers, which the City should deny due to the passage of term limits, then Mirisch will have to sue the City and get a judge to agree that he has the right to run which will cost the City money in legal fees. Is this the type of person we want to steward our tax dollars into the future? It's time for a change.
We will recommend alternative candidates to Mirisch once we know who is running, but it's important to know that it's time for this man to retire.
